We have been busy! In light of the economy and bleak financial future, we are blessed to have been doing what we do best, making memorable meals for fantastic people. Our customers are the best! The restaurant hosts weekends full of old and new customers and we are grateful to have the opportunity to share our food and traditions.
This month was a special one for us here at La Campagna. Our mother, ma, celebrated her 80th year on this earth and in our hearts. She was surrounded by family, friends and old neighbors. It was a nice time to get together and celebrate a woman who has taught and given us so much. We as children and grandchildren took a moment to tell her just how important she has been to us over these years.
Ma was surprised to see all those happy faces shouting, "Sopressa!". There was entertainment provided by Cleveland's own, Carmelina. The food was of course special as it was made with love and of course by hands that were taught the traditions from ma herself! We made a pasta favorite of the family, cecatelli, a small cavatelli shaped pasta. Honestly this was made from all 3 generations, so you can imagine the pasta itself was all kinds of shapes, but delicious non the less.
We also enjoyed various antipasti, chicken pastina soup, veal picatta, roasted chicken, sauteed vegetables, and our famous eggplant parmigiana. We asked family to bring some of their favorite desserts that we have enjoyed over the years at various family gatherings.
Again, it was wonderful to celebrate our ma. She taught us so many things about food, tradition and faith. She continues to give of herself in so many ways and we are blessed to have cherished her for 80 years. We all told her to keep on keeping on, because we have a 90th and a 100th party to plan!
For a woman born in the year of the Great Depression, she has come such a long way. We are proud to be her children and see the legacy she is building for us in tradition, food and faith. Tanti Auguri, mama!
