Our first outing was at Castello Banfi. Being mindful we are in Italy, we had an adventure getting there! Instead of making our 11:30am arrival time, we showed up at 1:15pm, let's just say we are in Italy! Luckily our gracious host
Mrs. Mariani said it was okay "after all you are here and you are in Italy". We started with lunch and we were able to catch the 4: 00pm tour. Our pairings were fabulous! Chef made a fried mozzarella like none other! It was a wonderfully delicious puff ball stuffed with Mozzarella and sweet basil in a tempura like batter with a few micro greens lightly doused in olive oil an sea salt. This is a "must try" when I get back to the restaurant!
Served with the San Angelo Pinto Grigio 2014
Potato gnocchi with prawns and zucchini
Fontanelle Chardonnay 2014
Homemade Pinch Pasta with Wild Boar Ragout
Belnero 2012
Lamb Chops on an Herb Bed with Roasted Potatoes and Porcini Mushrooms.
Castello Banfi Burnell Di Montalcino 2010
Dessert was a selection of treasts served alongside their Banfi Rosa Regale.
What a delicious way to spend our afternoon. We tasted some new wines, and enjoyed their best seller, the Le Remember a Chardonnay -Pinto Grigio blend. We hope they will bring some of these to the states. All in all
it was a wonderful day. Special thanks to Katie and Heidelberg for setting this
great tasting up for us. Banfi is a true fairy-tale story for all Italian Americans. As Americans with Italian Heritage, they have built an amazing winery with over 7000 acres. If your ever doing a
winery tour they are worth a visit.
