Lombardi and Family History Among the Grapes

We ventured to Lombardia to visit the Ca Montebello di Luigi Scarani an Agricultural estate that stretches across the lower hills with its flourishing vineyards on an imposing landscape in the
province of Pavia.  The area of Montebello mentioned on ancient maps, showed the origin of a feud belonging to the Arnaboldi domain, as one of the most valuable areas for the cultivation of vineyards.

After which the Scarni family vine growers for generations,   consolidated the wine tradition that guaranteed the continuity of quality and excellence of its wines, appreciated by generations of connoisseurs.   "A Family company", in the true sense of the word, an indissoluble combination that characterizes work which is always linked to the charisma and the personality of people who work respecting both nature and the territory.
Alberto the son of Luigi and Innes Scarani handles all of the world market sales and his sister Christina is the wine maker. Alberto told us that his great grandfather was killed by the Nazi's for feeding the Jewish people. So the family fled to Switzerland until the war was over and then returned to the land and began growing grapes and they have grown their grapes with the utmost respect for the environment, healthy and natural ripening of the grapes which results in rewards for the labor of a years work and the beginning of a new challenge in searching for quality and perfection.

Today's wine tasting took place at their tasting table overlooking the landscape of vineyards after vineyards.  We were so fascinated with the environment, a place where time seems to have stood still.  This allowed each one of us to be seduced by the hospitality of the owners and the captivating taste of the wines that balance perfectly with the taste of tradition.  Then Alberto took us to a small restaurant in his little town for lunch. Then he pointed out a  little house that he said was Giorgio Armani's. We had a wonderful lunch of  mushroom risotto, tagliatelle with cingali, then roasted beef with french fries. We returned to our homestead by 5.  What a very long day, but so rich in culture and history.
Until tomorrow
