Gelato and the Mayor...

Today the group made tomato basil gelato. Strange, right?  Just think of something savory to go with antipasti. It was delicious and of course fresh from the garden.  A 3 star master gelato maker, came to demonstrate and assist the class so we could understand the finer points of making this delicious treat.  We also used a squash, that resembled an heirloom pumpkin.  The results were certainly tasty and creative!

After the class, we were surprised by the Mayor of Orsara.  He came to the class and presented Carmella, owner of La Campagna, with a plaque of the city.  What an honor to have the mayor of our ancestors and current relatives recognize our part in celebrating our heritage.  When you are in the restaurant make certain to stop by and check it out!  It will be on display. 

Mama spent the day visiting relatives up in the town.  She will have many stories to tell, as they love to relive the old days with those who have already passed.  Truly this trip will be treasured for years to come.
