Marie, girl 1, has been reading along the blog and fielding questions from the patrons of La Campagna.
She reflects on her own travels to Italy and how reading along has sparked some new ideas. She writes:
"I enjoy reading the details of the festivities and trip. I am so happy to hear all is good and our sister, Carmella, and brother, Michael, are having the time of their lives meeting family and paesani. I teared up to hear Mike, say "Its like being Home".
I remember saying those very words when I visited Italy the first time in 1972. That feeling of being home is so apparent once you finally step on the Italian Soil. Our entire lives we grew up with the stories from the old country and heard our relatives share their memories with each other and us.
We were raised to honor our heritage and celebrate our traditions. Even if this meant it wasn't the popular American thing to do. To arrive in Italy and see the sights, smell the aromas and here the sounds, all of a sudden the way we were raised makes sense. No longer do you feel like an Italian living in America, you feel like an Italian coming home to a place that is familiar and safe. You also realize the relatives look so familiar. They resemble Zio and Zia and Nonna and Nonno and they even laugh the same way! What fun to enjoy each others companionship and learn new stories of your family.
Sounds like we need to host a Welcome Home evening or two so we all can hear the first hand details and view the photos from the trip. Maybe we can duplicate some of the meals they enjoyed together! We should put our culinary muscle to the test and make some of our signature dishes to see how they measure up! How does this sounds, anyone want to come and dine with us?
Many blessing are being sent to group on this trip from all the customers of LaCampanga. We receive many inquiries as to how they are doing and what is going on. So I am sharing this blog address for those who are interested. Every one is so happy Carmella and Mike went to Italy and can't wait to hear their stories upon their return.
