The North Union Farmer's Market Fundraiser held at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens on August 25, 2008 was a success. Fun and food was had by all who attended. We were next to the folks from Lolita, one of Michael Symon's restaurants. It was comical when we both admitted to the other that we have been trying to go to each others restaurant. But the only night free was Monday and guess what? We are both closed on Mondays! Isn't that the life of a restaurant owner?
One of the speakers made a remark that summed up the life of a restaurateur. Basically, he said we work at what we love, no matter what the demand, even if it means getting 4 hours sleep a night. But we love what we do. That is true. Food is a love, it has to be if you are in this business.
As always we met some wonderful people, sampled fantastic food and participated in a terrific event. We enjoyed meeting the new faces and hope they come share an evening at our table.
We are 2nd generation Italo Americans from the Puglia Region. Our story is like many Italo Americans brought together via tradition, laughter, family and food. Since we could walk, we were in our grandparents' gardens reaching for the prized "seed" tomato. The "tasty tomato" is our life force; metaphor for love, food, tradition, memories, comfort, the market, summer canning, harvest, celebration, and much more. Share our family traditions as we build upon the legacy of our Italian Ancestry.
Food Is...
Family, Tradition, Memories, Flavors, Gatherings, Laughter, Life, Vitality, Comfort...Love.
