Day 2 - Exploring Rome

A full day of exploring this ancient city awaits.  Headed to Saint Peter, we were told there were 7 people canonized the day before, one is Pope Paul the 6th.  Here is a link that will give more details about the new saints.

We strolled by the Trevi Fountain.  Legend has it that you throw coins over your shoulder if you wish to return.  There was a movie that made this folklore very popular.  Regardless, the fountain is a work of artistry and always a crowd pleaser.

Walking around we found some street stands roasting and selling fresh chestnuts.  A sure sign that we are in Rome and that is is nearing the fall harvest.  Don't these chestnuts look amazing!   You can almost taste their sweet nutty warm flesh by looking at the picture. Do you have memories of roasted Chestnuts?

After our Roman Tour with Adriana, we headed back to Genzano, a small city just outside of Rome.  It was a full day of sights, sounds and smells for sure!   We settled into a homecooked meal.  Pecorino and fig walnut jam, foccacia and Pasta Amatricana.  It was a wonderful day to have locals take us around and show us their city.

Cultural exchanges like this, open up our minds and hearts to others.  What a world it would be if we were more open minded and hearted to see how we all live our lives.  We are basically the same, human beings living on a large planet filled with resources that are bountiful.  To share who we are with others is a real treat.

This is one of the reasons why we opened up La Campagna.  We wanted to share our cultural heritage with others.  We love it when people come to the restaurant and share their stories too.  These stories connect us and make the human experience one to treasure.

Thank you to our Roman hosts, who have been gracious and giving to our group.  Your hospitality will be felt long after we leave.
