Girl 2 and the 1 Boy are going to Italia this summer! This will be the first trip for our brother Michael to the "old country". (Any of you with Italian relatives, remember how they would always talk of the "old country")? Carmella and Michael will be joining a small group to film a documentary for the Shepherds' Festival.
Amazingly enough the film director happens to have relatives from the same small town as we do, Orsara! Upon our arrival, you can imagine the people will start pouring out of their homes and businesses to see the "stanieri", strangers and then realize it is their American Cugine 5 times removed! There will be celebration, hugging, laughing, hugging, pointing and more hugging! Has anyone taken a trip back to the old country to visit their relatives??? You know exactly what we mean when we say hugging and more hugging!
Michael is actually named after his grandfather from Orsara. Saint Michael the Archangel is the patron saint of this town. For him this trip will be a chance to see his namesake's region and realize his bloodline's history. It will be emotional and special all in one!
Wish the whole family could join them. However we know they will be joined soon enough by their Italian family that will embrace them with open arms, hearts and souls. After all this is what Italians are, warm embracing people with room to spare!
