Michael DiLauro is the film director for the new documentary. He was off to work conducting some interviews the first day. He sat with his cousin, Priscilla to start things off. She brought with her a friend, Barbara who translated. Through the course of the day, they learned that Barbara's brother, Luca Guardabascio, is also in Film. He has done some work in Roma, including his own documentaries. Then the group discovered that Barbara and Luca also have family in Orsara! What a small world it is to travel all that way to find more paesani from the same small hill town!
The group ventured to a small local place for dinner. Carmella and Michael both laughed at how it was the Italian "La Campagna"! It was the same size, set up and feeling as the restaurant and they even served the same sweet desserts!
Now, for any of you who are not away, Michael is not a fish eater. He may indulge in the occasional cocktail shrimp, but that is about as far as it goes. For dinner they were served antipasti with fresh mozzarella and cantaloupe, seafood salad, calamari and then grilled white fish, crab and prawns! Michael cleaned his plate, BRAVO! The fresh baked bread, red and white wines also completed the table, to be followed with desserts of panna cotta, frozen limoncello and assorted digestivos.
On the way back to the hotel, they drove by the famous Colosseo lit up in blue lights, Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II, and the balcony of IL Duce.
Tomorrow a quick trip to the Vatican will start the day off. Then the trip to Matera will begin. Matera is about 5 hours from Roma, so a day of travel awaits.
